What We Do
Many
bold steps has been taken to educate deaf and dumb children, and many
milestone is yet to be put. Since 1954 we have been one of the best
institute of such kind. In our campus we have international level
knowledge imparting center. We educate our students with those courses
that helps them to be self dependent and experience a bright future.
The teachings are more of practical and less of theory. The following
are what we do for the deaf and dumb children. Our services include
providing education center for disabled, institute for disabled
children, training of disabled, disabled children development, taking
care of disabled and much more.
Formal Education Upto Class 10th

GBKV
provides formal education to deaf and dumb students up to class X. We have a
team of committed, qualified and experienced teachers, who take extra care
of each and every individual student, imparting education in a very friendly
manner. With the existing curriculum, we have well-equipped labs and library
with a collection of textbooks as well as books on different subjects.
The main aim of education is to instill in them confidence and broaden
their outlook, so that they can withstand the vagaries of life.
Hostel Facility

In
addition to day scholars, GBKV also has a full-fledged hostel. There are
separate wings for boys and girls. Hostel has proved to be boon,
particularly for those students, who come from far flung rural areas, which
lack even the basic facilities. There are permanent staffs in the hostel for
the upkeep of hostel facilities. The hostel has a combined dining hall,
which is big enough to accommodate hundreds of students at a time.
To maintain discipline in the hostel, students strictly follow hostel rules
and a daily routine. There are fixed timings for meals, study and games.
Considering the health factor, strict hygiene is maintained in the hostel
kitchen. We also have a panel of doctors for emergencies, who are available
round the clock. Students are also encouraged to indulge in outdoor
activities and games.
Computer Education

Computer
Education is very necessary. Keeping this in view, we have world class
computer education department to impart high level of computer education to
the deaf and dumb studuents. Here, students learn from the basic operation
system to higher grade software developing. This helps our students to be
self dependent in their life and build a bright future for themselves. Many
students of our school has prooved it and they are well settled in life.
Sewing, Knitting & Embroidery

Sewing,
Knitting & Embroidery belong to that category of artwork, which is
potentially one of the best options of vocation. We have a team of
professional trainers, who give formal training to students. So far as
sewing, knitting and embroidery are concerned, we train them in such a
manner that they can put imagination into the work of Art and make
sufficient earning. Besides teaching, we also give them the required
materials and care is taken to improve the competence of each student in his
or her preferred art.
Speech Therapy

We
provide world class speech therapy to children with speech and learning
difficulties such as dyspraxia, apraxia and autism. Articulation, literacy
and late speaking are also covered in our school. We hope that we provide
useful teaching to children to overcome such speech related problems. With
our advanced process practiced here, uncountable number of children has
benefited in understanding language and speaking them in proper order.
Wood Craft

We
impart education of self-dependency to our students so that they can earn
their own liveliwood when they grow up. Keeping this view, we have special
class of wood craft and embroidery. In our wood craft department, students
learn to make handicraft items from wood that is sold through exhibitions.
Students here are trained with the embroidery works. The teaching techniques
in our school are the best and upgraded.
Fine Art and Commercial Art

In
our vidhyalaya we have an excellent facility of teaching Fine Art and
Commercial Art to those hearing and speech disabled students who have a
flair to put down their imagination on canvas. These vocational training
helps them to explore themselves in their professional life. The avenues
opened for them are primarily advertising. Many of our students are doing
well in their career.
Screen Printing and Block Making

We
have a well developed facility to train hearing and speech disabled students
with screen printing and block making. These two trainings are such that it
is widely required in diverse sectors such as garments and paper. Our well
trained students can start their own business with different government
funding schemes and start a smart livelihood.
Medical Facilities
- A well qualified doctor is visiting the School every week. He is
examining everyone and giving proper treatment. All requisite medicines
are being provided free of cost.
- A qualified physiotherapist is visiting every week. She is giving
treatment to the inmates.
- A Dental Surgeon is on our panel to visit the School as and when
required
Transportation

GBKV
has its own means of transportation - be it the pick and drop of day
students, excursion trips, organising picnics etc., or even for any other
purpose. We have our own fleet of vehicles that include Bus, Marshall,
Bolero, CNG Tempo, Van and an Auto. All the vehicles are properly maintained
and have dedicated staff, who are experienced and responsible enough to
ensure complete safety and security of the students.
Yoga & P.T.
Yoga and Physical Training (P.T.) are an
integral part of the curriculum and hence part of the daily routine. It
primarily aims to let them understand the importance of health and we have
professional Yoga and Physical Education Teacher (PET), who conduct regular
sessions.
It also aims to teach students the importance of discipline, skills and
enthusiasm for a meaningful life.
Placement Facilities
The GBKV facilitates its students in
getting employment not only in the private sector, but government
departments as well. We coordinate with different organisations and arrange
training and awareness sessions to encourage employment to physically
challenged persons.
Celebration of Festivals
- As the mark of celebration, on Republic Day and Independence Day, a
cultural programme is organised by the school students.
- On the eve of 'Gandhi Jayanti,' the daylong celebrations begin with a
special prayer, Om Sadhna, followed by games and an exhibition of
paintings by students.
- Sweets & gifts are distributed among the students on Grand
Parents' Day.
- GBKV celebrates Diwali - 'The Festival of Lights,' in its true
spirit. On the occasion, while, special meals and sweets are served,
students light candles and burn fire crackers in the evening.
- We organise special langar on the occasion of Guru Nanak Devji's
birthday.
- Students play with colours and gulal, while sweets are distributed to
mark the 'Festival of Colours,' Holi.
- To mark the beginning of New Year, we organise a two-day cultural
programme and distribute fruits and sweets.
- We celebrate World Disabled Day on 3rd December.
- We celebrate each and every festival in its true spirits.
